If you're lucky, like I am, you have a robust Meetup group and things are great. You may have hundreds of members (maybe more). But usually, we have a smaller but committed group of people that is the CORE of your events.

THE PROBLEM:
Open events often attract lots of YES RSVPs from people who rarely or never show. Some are even repeat offenders, who never attend a single event! (Don't even get me started on MAYBEs.)

But Limiting the RSVPs to an event doesn't solve this problem. It rewards the quick, even if the quick are the people who have no intention of showing. This leaves people who genuinely want to attend without a spot. I've stopped limiting the RSVP count to my events.

THE SOLUTION:
Have an event SETTING whereby you can ONLY RSVP YES IF you have previously attended a certain number of events (e.g., two prior events).

WHY DO THIS?
Creating completely open events will invite and encourage new members. But having a Special Event like this REWARDS recurring members and prevents NO SHOWS from even RSVPing yes. I know it also discourages new members, but the Special Event setting shouldn't be used ALL the TIME. But as a reward for your CORE AUDIENCE. It also shows there's a benefit to attending.

I've been holding fairly successful Meetups for more than 2 years now. I have a limited space available and I want to be able to give my members something special, but can't limit the RSVPs because there will always be a NO SHOW taking up a spot that someone else would have actually wanted.

I think this is as good of a solution as you can get. VOTE! (please.)

I would like to be able to look on my account and pull up a calendar that shows all the events I have RSVPd to for the month selected.

I do not like to subscribe to the Meetup Calendar app because it does not allow me to edit the events on my own calendar so I tend to download each meetup event that I RSVP to (ics in my case). But sometimes something goes wrong and the event does not get into my calendar. I would love to be able to go the Meetup.com and be able to see a calendar of just the events I have already RSVPd to.

There are 3 tabs at the top of every homepage: the first is for "Upcoming" events, the second is for "Past" events, and the third is for the group "calendar". Right now Meetup automatically shows the "Upcoming" tab as the default whenever people visit the site. But I have a lot of events that I don't necessarily want to make an official meetup for, but I would still like to promote to my group and that I list as "notes" on the calendar, and that is the only place they show up. I constantly get people telling me "hey did you know there's this festival coming up that I think our group would like to check out" and I'm like "yes I know, I already listed it on the calendar". It seems for many people that no matter how many times you tell them to check the calendar to see a listing of ALL events going on, both official meetups, and non official events just posted for information purposes, they don't bother to click on that little tab that says "Calendar". And to be honest, I think having the homepage default to a calendar would be a lot easier for my members to see at a glance what is coming up during the month, both for official meetups I have planned as well as other events I may not be making a meetup for but I just want them to know about that are going on around the city that pertain to my special interest group.

If events don't show up on the home page when they first click on it, peeps usually don't find out about it because they don't go digging further through the website to find out about it, even if you mention it on the message boards. Giving Organizers the option to choose which tab the homepage always defaults to shouldn't be to hard to implement I would think.

Suggestions for how Banner Images would work better, and look better:

+ Stop taking my PNG images and turning them into JPEGs. JPEGs make logos look terrible, and the PNGs are small enough. JPEGs are not suitable or suggested for non-photographic images.

What's funny is that my PNG is smaller than the ugly JPEG that you're producing. But on the other hand, you're allowing images like the banner here that's over 100k!

(note that the meetup example involved me uploading a 4x resolution PNG, which looks much better than using the suggested resolution. Yet the untouched version looks best of all)

In short, if I upload a 960x160 PNG image, serve that exact image. If need be, cap the size of the doing this, but don't touch anything below that cap.

+ Failing that, give us an option to use SVG graphics so that the banner retains visual fidelity across multiple resolutions and devices. Again, the SVG version of my logo is a lot smaller than some of the banners I've seen on Meetup.

+ Failing that? Just let us pick our fonts, OK? Otherwise, people are going to make their own graphics with their desired font, which will be "uglified" by your graphics conversion. Net effect? You still don't get a "standard" font, and it'll look uglier than if you just let folks pick what they want.

Today you can only subscribe to 250 groups, and add only 15 to 20 groups in a row. That's great for real groups of interest and not great for PR groups, such as tech presentations. For the latter, meetup has a use and it would be great to be able to subscribe to lots of groups. Ideas (separately or all of them):

* Add a check "Is your group a "pro" group, for promotion or a watch on trends". If it's ticked, then adding the group won't increment the limitation counter.

* Allow the user to request to increase its max groups limit (require some extra infos so that you make sure to avoid spam / fake duplicate accounts)

* Check a rate of change instead of a static limit

This silly "Not attending" button actually costs events!!! For some reason people like to hit this button when they never wanted to attend the event in the first place. Then other people view the event page thinking that they might attend but see all those who aren't attending and then feel the event is not happening or not worth going to. It is such a stupid feature. I don't mind if there is a button that only comes available when they have previously said they they were coming but for whatever reason can no longer make it. That is a worth while feature. But if this idiotic button remains much longer I will seriously look at other alternatives to meetup as this one feature has turned people away. Or does Meetup itself support people not coming??

I just took over as Organizer for the New Orleans Drawing Group Meetup.
Most of the attendees of our local drawing group are usually by word of mouth, but we do get, for the present, just a few attendees who find out about the group from the Meetup page and only a very few RSVP - so most of the time, it appears on our meetup page as if the number of attendees are so meager. We rarely fill the room, so we do not even need anyone to RSVP. They can still contact me or post or ask any questions.

Because of that reason, I wanted to find out HOW WE CAN DISABLE THE RSVP function, or make it that it doesn't show up.
We do certainly get the word spread about our drawing group from the Meetup site - so it is quite beneficial!
