1 Million RSVPs!!! Big Event: Free 2 start a group:Cities w/few active meetups A shout out to cities who aren't in from cities that are in (like Raleigh shout out to Charleston, SC, etc) Something that would include more than 1 person (so people don't hover for 1 millionth position like in an eBay auction ;p) but some sort of big event to mark the occasion, something that would get towns that have few to no meetup events but are big web connected cities (like Charleston, SC) a big reason to sign up and start a meetup. I just found out (is it true?) Meetup is like a Phoenix out of the ashes of the 911 towers tragedy? Maybe a week of free sign-ups for cities that have fewer than "x" number of active groups? Do a commercial? TV ads seemed to give eHarmony a boost, maybe partner /share an event with a big singles website/co-host with the singles groups on meetup? Something like that?

I would perhaps suggest... Create a new section and title it "Suggested meetup locations by members".

Here people could post a location they would like to visit. Members could then say yes if they would also like to go to that location.
This section would only show the above and have the ability to only have the above. So it is only an area where suggestions are made and people can acknowledge if they also would like to visit.

And members fill in location they would like, and then i those who would like to go and would show up similar to the RSVPs we have aleady.

The organiser,after viewing and seeing lots at certain locations can then set a meetup based on that.

Please I know you have something like this but it is not as simple and easy to manager.

Could you think on the above. Am sure others would like also.

Organizers could build a custom sign-up list (Example: food items needed for a party or supply items needed for a group craft.) Members who RSVP 'yes' could then see what items have already been assigned and sign up for remaining item(s). Currently the only way to do this is through the conversation feed and you have to scroll through endless comments to figure out who has signed up for each item. Many times people sign up for duplicate items because they miss a comment. A sign-up list feature would make organizing an event much easier. Maybe a previous existing sign-up website could simply be integrated into Meetup (SignUpGenius.com is one such site) just like FaceBook and Twitter are currently integrated.

The new "find" feature substitutes Meetup methodology for organizer judgement. As repeatedly noted on the forums, Meetup would not want to substitute their logo with a random, member generated photo - please don't force this onto organizers, either.

We don't want to have to make our groups private, but many of us have been forced to take this route. Your method allows inappropriate photos which do not represent our groups to be the main ad.

A high number of group joins isn't the focus of a responsible organizer. ACTIVE members is the focus. If a member can't be bothered to read about the group, but joins based solely on "recent, dynamic content" which may or may not be an accurate reflection of the group, that member is unlikely to be active.

Finally, as I've pointed out before, your method allows for creepy group representations - I had to point out to you that one group had a cemetery as its "logo," (thanks to you - the org designated photo was a beautiful garden), and another group had a nude infant. Not cool.

Organizers pay for their site. I do understand that we sometimes complain about things that we shouldn't. However, having control over our "brand" should be a no-brainer.

We are only allowed 3 meetup groups on the one meetup account.

To create a new group, we need to cancel an existing group to free up the space to create a new group.

Currently, we need to email someone in support to do this for us.

I suggest you set it up so we can do this ourselves.

If necessary, create a process to make sure your guidelines are followed, e.g.

1. have a box where we create the email text to get sent out to existing members advising of what will happen, with a submit button
2. have a button to confirm we definitely want to delete the group.
3. Have this deletion request approved (if you feel it's necessary for that) by a meetup person.

That way to can still keep your processes but make it easier for group owners.
