I use the calendar more than everything else put together, it is annoying that it is scrunched off to the side. I suppose anyone reading the "what's happening" panel probably feels the same. How about a full-page view for each of those panels, and a user-preference telling whether to start up on the panel page (as it does now) or one of those full-page views? (I'd set mine to "calendar", no question.)
