What new feature would you like to see on Meetup, and why?

Customizable privacy settings and local calendar listing

Our group is private just to protect the personal information of our members and to screen applicants. But we would still like to publish information about our events and let others know that we exist. Please allow us to customize our privacy settings and let the organizers of private groups choose whether or not to list events on the local calendar.

I'd like to see a little more granularity in the privacy settings. We are a dues-collecting club. We approve people for the Meetup site when they pay their dues. The reason we have limited privacy turned on is because we don't want people scanning our site to grab personal information or to know that our members might not be home when we hold an event. Once an event is over, that's no longer a problem.

There are other affiliated dues-collecting clubs in our vicinity. Often, members of our sister clubs attend our events, but they pay their home club dues. We'd really like to have them and potential new members be able to view the pictures and the event recap without having to join. That way they can make a better informed decision.

A PUBLIC description should be available so EVERYONE can see a TITLE and PUBLIC Description. I dont agree that the list of interests of the group should be as public because it may not give the correct inference for the group as a Public Description would. All features need to have a private and public selectable option next to it while in the editing phase.

^5 Marsha. I am surprised this has yet to be implemented. As an ORGANIZER, I think each feature on your meetup group page should be selectable as PRIVATE or PUBLIC... I would think this would be kind of a no brainer.

Fantastic suggestion! It's frustrating to have to join a group to see if their events are ones that match my interests and/or are within a "reasonable" geography for me. Then leaving the group immediately after joining because the events are held in locations that are a horrible commute for me, etc.

        That helps no one.

My group is of a nature where meetups and their location are okay for public to see, but the members and attendees are anonymous. furthermore it should be okay for someone to see our meetup time and location and attend meetings without ever having to become a member.

We really need to be able to have the option of featuring information about our upcoming meetups to attract new members (without indicating the location) while at the same time protecting the privacy of our members. The all or nothing model we work with now is actually unethical, as it in effect uses members to sell the meetup without their informed consent. I have to protect our members, so I can't grow my group.

I suggest Meetup have an opt-out in Privacy settings from search engines, like FB do. This way my name & groups can still be shown to meetup members.. seems really odd to willing join a site and make friends, then have to hide everything away from them on the site... because Meetup allow google & search engines to bring up all your pictures and posts. If this is the case then why does meetup request you have a password.. when all can see!!!

Agreed! We need to be able to show our calendar to encourage new members. However, my current members are worried about the privacy of their profiles. I'd like member profiles to be viewable only by other members, but still allow non-members to view our calendar.

I agree with the first poster. We would love our group's activities to be advertised in the weekly email. Due to privacy issues we do not want people who are not members of our group to be able to see who is going, who has attended, or who is a member of our group. It invites spam, and stalking, which we really, really don't need! Please give organizers options.

I started a photography group and sell classes. I advertise and spend tons of time and money gaining new members. Others who offer classes can see my members and email them or find them on Facebook. I've had to kick people out of the group so they start their own photo groups and they contact my members. I would love my member info to be private unless they post something. This has been a big problem for me from the start.
