Your decision to implement the new event editor must somehow be for your advantage and benefit... because it certainly is NOT not to the benefit of meetup organizers.
To be blunt and to the point... the new editor SxxxS! (fill in the blanks).
Everyone makes mistakes. Why can't Meetup be professional enough to admit this mistake and remedy it?
Closing posts and shutting down open opinion is not the way to handle the issue.
you can nolonger add headshots for bios you can only plaster an image in the center of the page. This really makes me not want to use meet-up as a tool anymore.
I used to use an HTML editor to create my meetup description. I would paste the description into the HTML editor. It allowed me to create event descriptions that were distinctive and professional.
Please bring back the COLORED font and Smiley faces to meetup event posts. This is what makes the meetup event look fun!! Gets people's attention, highlights important info (only bold/italic is not enough) and gets them going - the whole point!! *Which pays the bills!...pays for our yearly fees to Meetup.* The meetup discussion board doesn't get them going and is, what it is, extra discussion and info. IF you have to choose only one place, these editing features belong here on the meetup description posts more than they do on the Meetup Discussion board posts, if anything. The meetup event description posts now look Boring! Left align and centering is also needed to keep smiley faces and paragraphs from getting all pushed around after you hit save. ..........Glad to see I am not the only one that has submitted to have these editing features return. Again, the meetups, not the discussion board get people to go, and pays our bills/Meetup site fees!
We do not live in a B&W world... Please restore the COLOR option in listings!!!!!!!!
It no longer supports the "consistent look and feel" of our event pages. How can I change it back?
I'm very disappointed! Regardless of how better it is for phone, I was expecting the formatting option as seen on other meetups who unfairly get to keep theirs while new meetups have to go plain for same price! and considering the look of the meetup is much more appealing with the formatting. The format should be an option for each meetup admin to use or not for their own.
No colors makes the screen look boring... events look monotone! Can't move pictures around... why would you do this? I have been an Organizer for two years and no one has ever reached out to me and asked me what I needed or wanted! We are the consumers and you have changed the product! You people at MeetUp just don't care! I suggest anyone reading this to call MeetUp HQ at 212-255-7327 and flood them with complaints... They will give you the same old run around, but at least if enough people complain maybe they will have to listen!
The way you have decided how I I can present the standard web display is not what I want. I want to be able to have color and large font sizes like it has been.
Please give us back our ability to use color in the description of our meetups! also, give us back the option to move the pictures to the left or the right, not just down the middle! This is awful!
Bring back the styling options!! The meetups look like crap now. I can't properly place or size pictures in the meetup description so the posting looks like a hack job. Also, what happened to the option to view and edit as HTML?
A fine example of SmartPhones degrading the capability of basic computing/web pages. NEED COLOR BLACK in descriptions. I CANNOT SEE THE FAINT GRAY TEXT THAT HAS BECOME DEFAULT. Thank you
Meetup is awesome for networking but now the option to add a link for your website has been removed to have a cleaner look. A solution for this is to be able to enter your website in the intro section but so that it only displays with certain keywords VS. a full website link. (enable people to enter an HTML link so that it converts to only display what the website is about...not just showing a long stringy URL) For example, if a website was "www.vancouverevents.com"... have it only display as an anchor text link "Vancouver Events"
Meetup took away allowing us to edit html. Awful.
Make the system easier to locate members at events! I use the questions to ask direct email and phone numbers. Your smartphone app is terrible!
Please allow the editing of HTML in the New Event Description Editor. The old editor had this functionality and the new one is a step backwards, and is severely worse than the previous version. I understand that you are not going to revert to the old editor, so please at least add the ability to directly edit the HTML to the new one. Event descriptions now look amateurish and inconsistent, especially with line spacing. This is doubly frustrating, as it is something that could be fixed easily if we could still access the HTML!

We Event Organizers use color for emphasis. Not all of us use mobile devices - most of my members use a desktop. If event organizers want to keep it simple, they can always choose to limit their own use of color. It was not necessary to take the color option away from us. You should trust your members - we are your paying customers after all!
Events Editor Need to be reversed back the new one cant embed video, no html, just plain doesnt do what I want it to. Mobile Apps needs to be fixed but in this way.
Yesterday's changes to the formatting functions of the event editor are, and let me make this absolutely clear, a HORRIBLE idea.
First of all, your PAYING CUSTOMERS HAVE NOT ASKED FOR THIS. By that I mean the group organizers who pay MEETUP.COM for the ability to create, post, and announce events. If anything, they've been wanting MORE formatting options. Second, IT WAS NOT NECESSARY. If a group organizer was concerned about the formatting across platforms, all they had to do was KEEP IT SIMPLE. Last, from a purely technical view, even if you could justify the basic concept, it's neither necessary nor desirable to strip the formatting ON DATA ENTRY. It could just as easily be done when the data is served.
I imagine quite a lot of group organizers are going to be pissed off about this. It's only been there less than one day and I've already talked to a couple who say they're ready to give up on MEETUP.
I'm sure you have your justifications for this decision, but your users don't care. You can't make your life easier by making their lives harder and expect them to be happy about it.
I would like to see you bring back video and colour...right now you can't really make out what is important...everything looks to plan and dead.
Although I understand Meetup made the changes to the editing portion of setting up an event for organizers to make it EASIER to edit. Unfortunately, being an editor myself, I find these changes highly limiting and difficult to actually make the events easier to see for members.

*There is no ability to alter color, which helps sections of an event to "pop" out more
*Centering and font size functions are gone
*entire editing toolbar is gone
Essentially, the editing toolbar was very helpful in allowing organizers to arrange the look of their events the way that they needed. I understand that not everyone utilized or perhaps understood how to use all the functions, but in an effort to simplify the process, you actually made it more difficult by removing TOO MUCH.
Any possibility of going back and adding at least the color, font, centering, and making it easier to place the pictures with text again?

This change in the event editor to help people view events on their phone has taken away our ability to embed movie trailers (we just received a complement Sunday from someone inspired to attend based on that), and highlight the super important information in red. (People will not notice important info at times, even if in bold.) Furthermore, I find access to the HTML code useful for cutting and pasting from a saved draft (like a template) into new events or into new event emails. If you want to make the mobile apps better, there are many suggestions right here on uservoice (such as force members to answer required questions when rsvping on a phone). Its sad that this has been a request for almost a full year and it has still not come back. I tried running a group after i moved with the new format and it just doesnt work. I will not be starting another group and putting in dues till the old look is available again.
Listen to the people who give you money and pay for the groups.

I WHOLEHEARTEDLY AGREE. If folks don't want to use formatting, they can just simply opt to NOT use it, but for those of us who want to use it, and LIKE to use color and centering, etc. we should have those options available.

I agree with everyone's comments. Lack of color, font sizes, etc. makes for a boring post. It was hard enough getting people to read my posts before the change, but now I don't have a chance in hell of anyone reading the important info for each meetup. I get more emails/posts now with questions (about info that is actually in the writeup that they aren't reading) than ever before. Bring back the old options for better event pages.
Are there any updates? Will these be coming back? It is so annoying to copy some past events and have color and all new events are not in color. Our members are wondering why some events are "pleasing to the eye" while others are boring. Not to mention as soon as I change/update anything the copied events change and the format is all off. So disappointed - I have been paying for and running my group for 5 years and other members are starting to bring other options to me asking me to move the group. I really hate to do that but it is starting to seem like we are getting less customer service, less options, and more of a headache. The fact that I can't even see one response from Meetup to the numerous questions about this speaks volumes in itself. Restore our faith in you, Meetup. We want to hear that changes back are underway.

I also miss the ability to drag and drop photos into the description. Having to download an image to my computer, then search for it to upload, then page thru all the *un-sortable* images in the photo album, and finally be able to upload but have no control over re-sizing or positioning is just plain frustrating.
The events page is one of the most important features of meetup. From everything I understand you can have mobile & web and have each look different. I'm not sure why this is not being implemented by MU. This need for uniformity is one I don't understand.

Sorry if I'm repeating, as I don't have time to read all 256 previous comments. I miss the colors a lot, but I discovered that full width photos can be added to the descriptions. So I take past event photos that look conducive to being made into banner-like photos for upcoming events, crop them into a banner shape and then shrink them to 600 pixels wide. Cool.

I think the point is that members are missing important information - I can't tell you how many members in my groups are missing basic and important facts about the Meetup because we have no way to present information other than in plain text. If I were to write an entire missive in a block of text how long would it be before you gave up and decided that it's too much work to read so much about the event when what I want to do is scan the important parts. Without some way to draw attention to the important points, then they are bound to be missed; and this includes meeting places, what to bring, important reminders about how long we'll wait and where to reconvene afterward, etc. So yes, please, add some way to highlight important points.
One nice thing about the use of HTML was that I could put a link in an event and make it open a new tab or window instead of navigating AWAY from Meetup. If you're not going to give us HTML back at least put <base target="_blank"> in the HEAD of your page so all hyperlinks will open in a new window and my members will not be FORCED to navigate AWAY from my page.
I fully agree, the look of my events are just not as appealing. Pictures are not particularly relevant to my events, especially since they are business-related events. Color makes things more exciting and certainly more noticeable than just black bolded ink. It now appears more like a boring news article.
Hello, can you please looking at amending this or adding something back? I have notitced that when i download images to a page it is centered.. but when I add some text it all goes to the left of the page. So my whole event description ends up looking messy.

Definitely bring back colours!!!!!!!!!!!! I need to highlight certain text for my group as some weeks the meeting place changes, and I also need to catch the attention of new members for certain information. Ours, like many others, is a volunteer group that helps homeless people in the local community, and no colours in my text means vital information could be missed, leaving new members stranded.
Yes, please give the Format option back so we can draw more attention to the viewers!! I don't care about how much better it may work with phone. It's not right admins who had it on their meetups prior to July 2013 can keep theirs to spruce up their meetups and we get the plain look!!! at the same price!!!
This is now the #5 most voted-up request for Meetup on User Voice. The top two have gotten some kind of response from meetup — "Under Review" and "Started", respectively. The third and fourth both have about two hundred more votes and haven't received a response. They're both important feature requests, but I think this is clearly a FAR more pressing and urgent issue. As of now, we need about 300 votes to catapult this into the top spot, and getting another 359 and reaching the symbolic threshold of 1000 votes would be even better. So let's reach out to organizers we know who may not even be aware of User Voice and see if we can get them to come here and vote and leave some comments. The more noise we make, the harder it will be for Meetup to ignore us.
So I just created a meetup, took all the time to put in formatting, bolding, italicized, minus the colours, and when I save it, it's all gone. All that formatting is gone, and it's all plain text.
How are we supposed to attract people to our meetups if its so bland? We can't emphasize important information using colours, or different sized lettering. This cost cutting measure and lazy programming isn't going to improve the organizers ability to run a meetup. Why is meetup moving backwards with the web design?
