Reduce number of Emails Sent !!
As an organizer I get way too many emails for basically every action that happens on the club or an event I organize. And I'm sure I speak for everyone on Meetup.com - Organizer or Not:
I get an email:
- When someone RSVP's for an event I organized.
- Or Changes their RSVP.
- Adds a Photo to an album I created:
- Comments on a Photo, I previously commented on.
- Adds a comment to a meet-up I created.
- Emails me a comment if I commented on a meet-up that I did not organize ... and so on ...
I realize that I have the option to turn these settings off, and I can choose to do that. But I have a better idea, that I hope meet-up would consider.
Instead of sending an email every time, for each of the actions above. Meet-up needs to create an "Activity" Page. This page should be available when I log in and should list out all activities that pertain to me. Such as comments left on my Photos or Meet-ups. People who have RSVP'd on my Events etc etc. An email can be sent out once or twice a week to the member if they failed to log in and check their activity page. Meetup.com has a way of tracking this.
We have a team dedicated to revamping all messaging on Meetup over the course of the next year.

Or how about one global turn off ALL emails rather than having to customize every group. Think about it - most people belong to more than one Meetup. Allow me the ability to turn off all communications without having to go to every group and tweak the settings. Do you have any user experience designers on staff? It sure doesn't look like it! Also it would really help if you actively updated the progress on these tickets. Not hearing from Meetup staff over a year for something is ridiculous.

I quit my account because I could just not take the emails on my business email, it is for clients and priorities not 6-8 meetup emails a day because I signed up for some groups and changing each group email is WAY too much work ... just have a button no freakin emails! Email overload is going to be the death of new companies Insightly, Pinterest, etc I do not need an email aday from 20 things I use ....

i agree there are far too many emails coming from meetup. i specifically avoid commenting on things and joining groups and events if i dont think its worth having to delete 20 emails from that one thing later. why cant we have a notifications section on the meetup website, instead of having emails coming in? i'd rather check meetup than my email to see whats going on.

Great, it's now 2013 meaning this should be done!

This is getting ridiculous. Please fix your email and notification settings for Meetups. Your convoluted process (10+ checkboxes for every single meetup!?) to unsubscribe from, but still be a part of, a meetup group is embarrassing, and frankly makes Facebook's Privacy Settings look downright simple in comparison. Please fix this, for the good of your community. If you'd like concrete suggestions, let me know and I'd be happy to provide them.

Tammy...i agree...now Meetup has actually added another email telling my members "Stay in Touch!" after every meetup! I'm going to have to start recommending that members only use the app on their smartphones (if they have them) and turn off all emails from the meetup internet site.

The emails I REALLY do not like, are:
1. When I post a meetup that a member requests, even if I do not RSVP and I don't host or comment, I get an email every time someone comments.
2. If I correct a mistake on a meetup I did not create and am not attending, I get an email every time someone comments.
3. If I approve a suggested meetup and send the announcement, but I did not RSVP or comment, I get an email every time some one comments.
These are just awful emails that are needless. What we do need is an off switch.
The email settings let you turn off emails for comments added to events you have RSVP'd to, but the above cases do not fall in that category.
Please help!
Thanks for reading this.

Then why did you add 2 new emails for "RSVP'd Yes" and "scheduled a ?? These are nonsense and unnecessary. The default for this should be OFF. This is a very bad idea. Maybe useful for a member who is brand new to meetup. They get the email the first 2 times they RSVP yes. Then make it go bye-bye. We want LESS email, not more. Thanks.

"over the course of the next year"???
Now I undertand why facebook/linkedin are winning and meetup are losing after so many years since it's founded. PLEASE, act quick to users' requests.

I cut mine in half by unchecking the 2nd option under EMAIL SETTINGS as another person has already mentioned. This eliminates ALL of the RSVP emails. If getting RSVPS of yes or no is bothersome, then simple turn that option off. Visit your event page any time you want to see who is or is not coming. Simple really.

I would like if Meetup could email the organizer before they send out the automatic reminder emails. Often times I just need to tweak one thing about the meetup a day before and the reminder email gets sent at 3am the day before... Maybe we could specify what general time those emails go out! Thanks!

To the list, I'd like a way to send reminder emails ONLY to those who RSVP. It sure does tick off our members when they get a "reminder" for an event that is already full.

I was actually BANNED from a meetup group because the organizer complained about the fact that I RSVP for events so I can organize my home page better. I other words, I'll RSVP "No" to events so that my home page will no longer show them - he complained and then banned me because he didn't want to receive all the "NO" emails. I suggested he simply set up an email filter (with outlook, or his provider) to automatically filter these to his trash folder so that he never saw them... this is when he banned me.

ps--- Organizers can also choose, when posting a meetup to receive or NOT receive emails about the event. Do you know that?

I think we can already limit our emails via ACCOUNT (at top in tabs) then EMAIL SETTINGS, Then choose which group, then limit these. Are you asking for a more specific detailed reduction?

I couldn't agree more. The email correspondence from meetup is getting ridiculous. I just posted my response about it here http://meetup.uservoice.com/forums/37079-ideas-and-suggestions-for-meetup/suggestions/2501889-global-controls-to-disable-email-correspondence

hmm...I get NO emails about meetups, folks who RSVP'd to one of my suggestions, etc. Can't figure it out!

I want it reduced as a member as well. We are not allowed to turn off organizer emails and most organizers completely abuse this power.

Agreed. I would add to that list allowing an organizer to globally not receive RSVP emails for all events.

One problem I have is the automatic "a spot has opened up" emails that get sent out when there is a waiting list, even a manual one. My members complain often about the number of these emails.
