Create SUBGROUPS to allow easier management of larger groups.
I currently organize three moms groups. I divide each group according to the age of children. Since Meetup only allows one email address per three groups, I'm now maxed out. It would be tons easier if you would just allow us to create subgroups so that we wouldn't have to add additional stand alone groups for the same focus. This would also help all of my groups come together as a community.
Not something we’re planning on doing.

I understand that Meetup may be concerned that some National Organizations would use subgroups to avoid settng up local meetup groups and paying dues. However, I think most of our groups are local groups run by individuals and not large national organizations. I think there should be a way to address our needs for tools to run our groups and address their business concerns.

This would be very helpful for my group. We have two levels of membership.

I would be super happy with color coding on the calendar. We've brought this up so many times - come on Meetup .... please??? =-)

I also run a moms group where we have group wide events and age related events. It doesn't make sense to separate the group into separate meetup groups and have all our members check multiple sites. That is just frustration and not an options. I have suggested multiple calendar options since they have already refused this idea once before: http://meetup.uservoice.com/forums/37079-ideas-and-suggestions-for-meetup/suggestions/2670492-have-the-option-to-have-multiple-calendars-instead

This really needs to be added.
It would be VERY EASY for MU to let us create custom email lists, then for each event, select a category so that the emails for each event only go to that group.
People in my group don't read the emails because many are for stuff they will not attend. So they miss the fun events they are interested in.
You really need to address this so we can customize our events to the members wants and needs. There is SO much email that goes out, so please ge this started.
Don't you want YOUR server to have to send less email AND have meetup members receiving notices of events they ARE interested in?!! Please please review this idea!!! Thank you.

Being disgruntled myself, 6 months ago I built my own Meetup Alternative. You can create subgroups with Grooppa! See it here www.groopppa.com I have my own photography site here www.christoph.grooppa.com I have rolled the features and capabilities of Meetup, Facebook and Flickr, all into one platform. You can contact me for more details here christoph@grooppa.com

I LOVE this idea. I have just taken over as organizer for a moms group and through conversations with many of the members, we are all noticing that the groups dynamics are really changing. This is mainly due to the fact that many of the moms who have been a part of this group since it was created have older children and they hang out with each other, and that leaves us other moms who have very young children hanging out with one another. That's all fine and dandy, but I am noticing too that the leadership team is really good at organizing things for the older children but not for the younger. So that leaves me having to organize an entire group by myself and the moms with older children are almost inactive anyways. I would love to have something to the effect of one main group with an organizer and leadership team, and then subgroups with the same organizer, a co-organizer and different leadership team. My biggest issue at this time is the fear of having "Too Many Chiefs and Not Enough Indians" (so to speak, this is not intended to be a rude comment). I need a leadership team that will help me to organize things for younger children, and the leadership team that I already have is great at organizing things for the older children. Since the moms in my group love this group, they are not willing to make a new group that is separate and apart from this one, therefore Meetup wouldn't be missing out on money. It would certainly make things much easier for me as an organizer and I know that the members of my group would be glad to have this feature as well.

Good point Robert! The biggest challenge with meetup is that they only take suggestions that will increase the 'quantity' of meetups, which means money in their pockets. This is why there are so many suggestions for us organizers to better be able to collect dues from members, but meetup does nothing about it.

Meetup will never agree to this ... your subgroups will compete with main groups, reduce $.

I would really love to have this option! I run a regional group that would love to do break out sections by neighborhood, and while not exclude those in other neighborhoods not spam their inboxs's with messages that do not concern them. I already do this with "email lists" but those are clunky and difficult to coordinate.

I also agree. Managing two groups in the DC area I often have to cross-post meetups and because its a gaming group RSVPs are essential to our success and thats just a nightmare when I have to keep tabs on both groups and manually turn off RSVPs when we reach a cap.

I think this is a great idea too. My dog group has gotten very large and there are members who would like to connect based on breed, neighborhood, etc. while still being affiliated with the large Meetup group. It would be great if Meetup could explore this, though I'm sure they'd rather see these folks form their own Meetups.

One of my members also suggested that subgroups according to location would work for her. My Meetup groups are county-wide, so it's not always convenient for them to attend all Meetups. They've even had to do Yahoo groups and the like to set this up. It's truly an inconvenience for them. I sincerely hope that Meetup considers this proposal.

yes, and it would be ideal if there could be an option during sign-up for the people to pick which sub group fit best. and, some people may fit in multiple sub groups. Having editing options for the lead to be able to change the subgroup would be great too.

i've seen this request a few times in this forum ... creating subgroups. i notice that meetup is not responsive to any of them. other venues such as "big tent" have subgroups, and "big tent" is free! i'm sure meetup can step it up and make many many many many organizers very happy.

curious do you mean you have 3 different specific meetup groups? I would love to talk with you, Sandra. I also organize a Moms group that is large 340 members which for where I live is a good size, but I am trying to combine it with another smaller group. Would love to talk. My email is vicknj@gmail.com

I agree, in fact I just posted the same request for my Gaming group that has many subgroups. I also was wanting to be able to set meetups for specific members since so that it provide some refinement on who is in what group.
