Automatic Dues Reminder
Meetup should send automatic emails to members reminding them that their membership dues are due & turn off access if they arent paid within a specified time period (detewrmined by group organizer. This is a lot of work for organizers to "hound" members and keeping it automated would save a lot of time.
There are several other uservoice ideas/suggestions with similar requests but I'd like to outline things in detail with a few twists
1) Ability to set up a auto-reminder email to members (ability to set frequency at 1,3,6, 12 months depending on the membership due structure)
Auto-renew feature would be nice but I realize that if people change their credit card / paypal account is not-funded etc, then there would be declined transactions or chargebacks from members which means more work for meetup.com HQ. Auto-reminder email won't require additional finance management from meetup.com HQ.
2) Ability to control who can RSVP to certain events
Most meetupers expect to join and be part of a group for free making any money collection for organizers quite difficult. While I had no problems with paying meetup dues myself, as the group got larger the only way to minimize flakes was to get people to commit financially.
Would it be possible to add features such as:
a- ability for those who have paid dues to have "priority" RSVP capability to certain events (i.e. keep the event closed to the whole group for 24-48 hours, but if they have paid dues they can RSVP immediately)
b- ability for only those that have paid dues to RSVP to certain events
I would like my members to pay membership for 1 month, 3 months, 6 months or 1 year and from that they would be able to access our calendar etc. I would like an automatic reminder to be sent to them to renew their membership to my group. And I would like their access to the calendar to be restricted until they have paid their dues.
1 would offer them a 3 month free trial.
Please let me know what you think?
I think it would be helpful if there was a mailing list for all our unpaid membership dues. Then we could send out mass emails to only the unpaid members for collection.

I am VERY suprised this isn't part of MeetUp yet, I've been an organiser for almost two years now with my first group closing due to moving location and my second group now running 1.5 years later.
I hate hounding people to collect fees and as such I've paid almost 80% of all the fees so far and that isn't fair on me trying to provide a group the ability to create events and meetup with each other.
So .. GET CRACKING AND MAKE AUTOMATIC DUES VIA PAYPAL and amazon payments.
Sara - Where can you turn off rsvp for upaid members? I'm not finding it or maybe it's right in front of me and I'm just blind. Help!
Turning off RSVP for unpaid members will eliminate NO SHOW and increse the chance of getting in for paid members on events with limits.
I agree. However I would only give them the first month free.

I'm the Treasurer. How can I correct or delete an erroneous Dues entry? It corrupts the financial report.
That's an excellent idea. It just makes common sense. Any accounting feature should have a filter to sort the data we need.
This is a great idea. I suggested it elsewhere (didn't see this suggestion when I posted it elsewhere)
This is a great idea. This would help increase the percentage of paid members.
I have been on the board of a kayaking club. We often get requests for trial memberships. The ability to offer a 3 month trial membership would be extremely valuable!!!
This is an essential piece of any dues payment feature.
I am part of a kayaking club that requires dues for membership. We are considering using Meetup for our club. However, the lack of a renewal feature is a major obstacle that prevents us from using Meetup. We need a fully featured renewal option with automatic reminders and the ability to choose what parts of the site are accessible to paid members versus those who have not yet renewed.
I can't imagine you would create a one time pay to join feature without having in the back of your mind the need for renewals. Hopefully you are already busily working on a dues feature with more functionality which will soon be available.
LOVE this idea! I feel bad hounding people to pay but everyone has to!

This is a great idea! Along with this there should be a date that the member can use to designate which payment they want it to be credited towards.
