Please give organizers the ability to restore the old format. Or at least change the current one.
It would be nice to be able to restore to a previous format if the new imposed format isn't generally acceptable to the group. This new one doesn't work well with our needs and I'd like to be able to restore to a previous one or design my own.
update my site to the new look with three columns as before. western suburbs, PLEASE!
I can't even view any new meetups
My photo and hiking groups have been hurt badly by the new format you began Jan 24th. Can we get on the list of groups who give feed back and ideas for changes. We really need ideas! Our groups are going stale and we need suggestions from our members.
Go back to the old format or customers organizers will look for a new site!
I can't post a comment without doing it at somebody's profile, I have to scroll past bulloney to find out what's happening, I can't even get to any prior conversations with members, AND I can't post images to introduce an event, as before.
The new platform is terrible. Go back to the software used in early 2009.
If, after all the posts and emails and threats to cancel, you are still not sure...Give us a chance to switch back and see how many do it. Make sure though that everyone is well informed of the option and that it constitutes voting.
One of my members just wrote me saying she couldn't post her idea. I just tried to post it as an actual Meetup and I couldn't even do it. I HATE this new format. Our group is falling apart because of it.
I am very upset at the arrogance Meetup are displaying towards us as Organisers of late and feel that we should be given more rights towards the space that we are paying for.
Meetup should acknowledge these rights if they have any respect for us as Organisers and should not be able to force unnecessary changes on us depending on whatever agendas they have.
This is my 5th year as an Organiser here in the UK and I have brought around 95% of members as new members to Meetup. I have 2 established groups and had just setup a third but the recent appauling attitude of Meetup is making me re-examine whether I should start looking elsewhere.
Everyday members are complaining about the awful layout, they are confused (as am I) with why anyone would want our meetup page to look like that...plus i've had to explain that I didnt do it & no I cant put it back as it was (despite paying for it) ... My groups were colourful with tons of members photos, looked great and were reasonably easy to use...they are now drab, full of ugly maps that no1 wants to look at,difficult to navigate, have loads of errors and make me question the validity of my monthly subscription fees.
Oh and this 10 vote system is hardly democracy is it,i'm sure most of us would like to agree with every comment about the recent changes!
you took a system that worked well and made a mess - it was easy to navigate, was not dictorial and turned into an incoherent system - quite unfortunate
It had eveyrthing and was really ideal. We dislike this format very much. Why can't we have the previous format restored? This one is a huge step backwards
Any promoter or organizer knows that disturbing the flow of their club or organization is the WORST thing to do!!
Therefore, when meetup dev team changes our tools and our use of the meetup we started... and then when we are informed that we are not reverting back to the positive tools we were just utilizing even though we are all requesting such.... well that's it for me!!! It's time tp get a dedicated site from godaddy or the like, it's cheap, and just use meetup to link to that dedicated and consistent new site so that members don't get confused as much as organizer EVERY time the Dev Team thinks they are improving our club/meetup.
I don't know what's worse; the fact that they are making changes the way they do, leaving us out of the loop with lots of needles downtime in how we organizers have to adjust to lame pseudo-improvements or the fact that they don't care to bring back what the masses are requesting..... maybe it's an example of too big to quickly??
Meetup bring people together... but now it brings people together IF you keep re-learning the new "improvements"... it's becoming a huge waste of time to do things only their way and I don't see this helping build meetup... maybe just maintain it.
If it aint broke dont fix it it.....
You Dev Team are Lame. You guys should start a meetup just for meetup Dev Team people/users only.... the Dev Team should meetup and discuss how to make more changes to meetup and not offer options on how to bring back what we most need.... the tools that don't need fixing..... man you guys are lame.
Please give us back our previous format. It worked so much better for our members. Everything from the home page, calendar page, and RSVP's were much simpler.
Meetup needs to stop treating PAYING CUSTOMERS with such disrespect. Organizers don't care when you offer a four word response that this is staying. This feature is broken and does not help anyone running a meetup group. Organizers should not be guinea pigs for experiments or be forced to go along with inflexible poorly thoughts visions. Make the maps optional or get rid of them!
Cannot get a grip on what's happening without going through pages of members commenting.Home page should be clean
The old design was so much better. It allowed our group to communicate, whereas this new one does not have the same sense of community. The old design allowed us to share meetup ideas, whereas now, we can't seem to figure out how to get our ideas seen/heard. I've heard many people grumbling about this new design. You should listen to your audience.
Reading members' comments and recent activity showcases the group's character and creates a community that has unfortunately been affected by the new format.
The New Meetup is a little pointless...when a user signs in, all they see is one event staring them in the face! I suggest that you reduce the amount of real estate you are currently taking up...it's really not necessary.
There used to be a better way to write to members GOING to an event. You could just pick an easy way of writing to the people going to a specific event. I can't figure out how to do it now. The way it was set up bf was much easier.
This new format is not appealing to any of my members. All complained and you should listen us.They don't visit our page as they did anymore for communication.
I have e-mail to sent e-vite if I wanted to ask coming or not. and it's free. You can add tabs to improve without change the format like this. It's simply awfull and we are not 20yrs olds here. How terrible way to go, Change the main and make us deal with it. If that's the case than you shouldn't involve anyone else but yourseves. The new format is just awful...
Please don't do major revisions without having everything in order. this has been a horrible week of inquiries from members. The google map is THE WORST of many changes that shouldn't have happened.
What the heck are you guys smoking or snorting over there at Meetup?...
You take away optional MAYBE RSVP's - mistake.... but you don't learn from it!
You screw with the appearance of everyone's site, deleting their home page which they took time and trouble to create, and replacing it with Meetup's "vision" - BIG mistake!
Now I am receiving auto-generated emails telling me I don't have a "locations" for my Meetup Events when I do, and I have already accurately provided Google Map links, but can not accurately provide a location with the second rate Meetup system because it doesn't work properly in the first place. If I don't wish to use the Meetup "location" facility, that should be up to me, and it's incredibly short-sighted and stupid of Meetup to design their system to auto-generate emails just because I choose not to use this facility!!! - another dumb mistake!
My only conclusion is that Meetup is designed by people who don't use the system like us Organizers do, and who don't do any market research before they unleash their latest screw up on us.... so please... listen to your Organizers and stop screwing with the system, but if you must, then make the changes OPTIONAL and stop enforcing them on us without any consultation or prior notice.
There are many many Organizers who are really pissed at Meetup right now, and for good reasons - I for one am so fed up with the attitude of Meetup that I have decided to do my own thing and will use a WordPressMeetUps system in future, which will do everything I need it to do for my group, and more!!! ...and no one else will be able to screw with the system but me!!!
Please return to the previous meet up format.
on the old format there use to be a place where the organizer could make comments for everyone to see. But now you have to do it on every single event..can you please bring that bacl
We desperately need the calendar back to help us orgnaize and keep track of events. It is difficult to scroll through our meetups in order to get to the latest discussions. Memebers are missing important info because they have to scroll through so many meetups. We also miss the pix we could add to advertise each event. Please, please, make at least these three changes or simply allow organizers to use the old format. Thanks in advance for your consideration and effort in making these changes as rapidly as possible.
If you won't change the format for everyone, please give the organizers the ability to restore the old one.
Everyone send a message to meetup HQ We HATE THE NEW SITE!!
I just started a new meetup and the home page is the newest meetup! What's up with that? I need people to see what the groups is about since it is a group for women only.
Wow - I am not sure what you did - but the meet-ups in my area seem to be moving off meetup.com so fast something has happened. I love meetup - whatever you did - fix it quick before they all leave!!!
Meetup's Andrea Murphy says: "For folks requesting that we revert back to the old site: We have no plans to do this."
How arrogant is that? Nearly 8,000 votes and 3,900 comments have overwhelmingly showed that organizers and their meetup members hate new meetup. And all the Meetup admins are doing is tweaking this and that.
Our members want discussions higher, videos on the home page and an elimination of the sophmoric phrases like "Let's Meetup and..." The phrases take up way too much space and treat us like morons.
Please "make rapid changes" on that!
Let us use the old look of our pages, the new one is hated by my groups.
Within the events displayed on the groups homepage the google map is often pointless/not required and a picture would be much better, could you make the map optional or have the option to replace it with a picture?
Previously we could see all the important information at a glance without having to scroll. The information was condensed and there was a lot less wasted space on the page. With the new format I can see only a single event without having to scroll. Knocking down the events displayed from 10 to 5 helped but not much. Still scrolling 3 screens to get to Latest Activity. The information density is just really low in the new format. 5 events used to take less than one page in just the small right column. Now three full pages!!! Big fonts, lots of white, wasted space. Just start using the wasted space and it would be a huge improvement. People still use laptops and now tablets. We don't all have acres of screen you know.
See above!
our group is reallyhaving a hard time navigating the new changes. most of us abandon our visits to our groups board because it is just too much of a pain to find what we are looking for. one thing that is completely missing is the "IDEAS" tab. there is no way to find ideas members have posted. the new changes are just worthless
Abandon the "new Meetup" format. Tried to get used to it, but changes are not helpful.
There are numerous things I don't like about the new meetup format, but losing the ability to attach a picture to the event description is #1 and worse than all other problems combined. It was already easy enough in the old layout to include a link to a map for the meetup location. Taking away the picture destroys the beauty of the website.
I am one of many disgruntled organizers currently looking into alternative ideas for web hosting. If you would at least allow me and my event organizers to include a picture with an event, as we did before, I could be convinced to stay with meetup; and I'm sure many others could be as well.
I suggest Meetup.com go back to the previous format. Accessing calendars was WAY better in the previous format.
I liked the old way better. I found it easier to see and organize. This new format is ugly and not as untional. I also liked the idea tab better as I have already had issues with members trying to organize their own meetups and feel this new field only encourages that. Not all ideas are meetups and not all ideas will be organized.
Please bring back "old" format for our meetup groups. The new one does not work. Thanks.
New Meetup page format stinks. Change it back to the way it was. It's awful!
The pictures are too small. I could not acess upcoming meetup groups to RSVP. Notice should have been given that a change was going to be made. BRING BACK TE OLD FORMAT PLEASE!
How could you lose 80-90% of our Ideas/"In the making" after migration?
Is this part of an IPO plan?
1) Return the SMALL CALENDAR on the SIDE BAR.
2) Return the TWO MONTHS CALENDAR at-a-glance FORMAT.
3) Return my ability to post pictures/graphics to my Calendar Listings/Meetup Descriptions.
4) Return my ability to use colors in the text of my Calendar Listings/Meetup Descriptions.
5) Restore the original Member Photos to the size.
6) Restore a SIMPLE YES RSVP with a “Comment” Section.
7) Restore a SIMPLE NO RSVP with a “Comment” Section—I get quite a bit of feedback from the NO RSVP Comments sections.
8) Restore a SIMPLE MAYBE RSVP with a “Comment” Section.
9) Remove the HELPED language: I do 95% of the work on my group. I don’t have “helpers!”
And your "improvements" will be meaningless. Can't believe you would say "too bad if you don't like it". We are your customers! My meetup group is already planning on leaving. Such a shame. Nevermind technology, the new format is a mess to use!
Description… (optional)These changes are intolerable. It is now taking 25 times as long to create event and it looks terrible. Members can see every mistake have made along the way because of the ridiculous changes. Please change it back asap.
the only improvement i would like to see is making it possible to rsvp on the calendar without the page changing.
It looks like a dump Facebook mock-up and it did not improve a damn thing...
The new look is not up to par. It's just messy. and they want people to pay for this.I hope some of my group open a facebook account. It free and why better organizes. Sorry meet up this time you went way over board.
Go back to the old format or at least give the organizers the anility to use it. You have gotten rid of many of the things that we like about the meetup site (pictures, sharing, etc.).
Please back to the preious format, I found the new page layout less communicate with friends, it looks like a narrow road or like someone block me out...no more can see other friends comment on other topic in the same page...
The new changes made to meetup have reduced functionality both for members and event organizers.
I like the old format too, this new page lay out is less information and communication, like a narrow road, uncomfortable, please change back the previous one. Please....
Not liking this new layout at all!!! what was wrong with the old one? Please please go back to the old site!! Too confusing and hard to navigate and use!
Get the kinks out of the new site!
The new layout features summary bars next to the Google map inset. These summary bars are not color-customizable like most of the rest of the design of the page, and the default colors disrupt the page design.
In most of the Meetups I am a member of, those bars look terrible, and in some cases are unreadable. You've given us the tools to highly customize the look of our pages, and yet the section that is arguably the most important on the page is not one that we can control the look of.
It's a design disaster.
We had a great site, until you started "updating" it. Now it sucks and everyone is looking for alternative sites and want to get rid of meetup. Is that what you're trying to accomplish?
Meetup is a good example of "TOO MANY COOKS SPOIL THE BROTH" - They have way too many unnecessary applications and they are constantly making unnecessary change. THEY JUST CAN'T LEAVE WELL ENOUGH ALONE and just when organizers get used to an acceptable and reasonable format they go and change it. They complicate things and make things more confusing mostly for group organizers who have to manage their page. AWFUL - TERRIBLE - HORRIBLE...WHAT A NIGHTMARE!!!
I'm so angry I don't know where to start but let's start at the top of an event page. Meetup puts a big map on the top left. I don't like my event page to be defined by a gordy map. In place of a map the option should be for organizers to put their group logo or the logo or image of where the event is being held. It's ok to have a map on the page but it should be a small icon button which people have the option to enlarge. When people click on the location the map comes up anyway so the map actually appears on two pages which is overkill and very unnecessary.
Now let's look at the text of the event which is the meat of the page. The text color is too light. It's a light gray. It looks like draft mode. A #2 pencil is darker! - Meetup removed the option for organizers to highlight certain words or sentences because they removed the color chart so organizers can't put emphasis on their text. AWFUL - TERRIBLE - HORRIBLE...WHAT A NIGHTMARE!!!
Now let's look at the bottom of the event page where it says "Talk About this Meetup" Every time an organizer makes any change to the event such as changing just one word or a very slight change it's listed in that section as (for example) New York Dinner Group 'I changed my meetup description" - So if an organizer has to tweak and edit his event page a few times it will be listed just as many times to everyone and the organizer can't even remove this so in this section you might see something listed ten times that looks like this...New York Dinner Group. I changed my meetup description. New York Dinner Group. I changed my meetup description. New York Dinner Group. I changed my meetup description. New York Dinner Group. I changed my meetup description.
and on and on and on.
How pathetic is that? Meetup allows organizers to remove other people comments in this section but they can't even remove their own work which is often just editing work. AWFUL - TERRIBLE - HORRIBLE...WHAT A NIGHTMARE!!!
Now let's look at the rsvp section. Some people leave comments about an upcoming event or they leave comments after the event has occurred. The text color is normal, dark and black which is the way it should be but the organizer is stuck by creating an event in very light gray. Members comments are actually more bold and stand out more than the organizers text. Isn't that pathetic? AWFUL - TERRIBLE - HORRIBLE...WHAT A NIGHTMARE!!!
Now the following complaint regards the worst decision that meetup has made and that regards the inability for an organizer to remove negative or damaging comments left by group members. Some people leave very negative and embarrassing comments for everyone to see which can be extremely detrimental and harmful to a group. An organizer doesn't even have the power to remove often very purposeful and vicious comments left by members and some of these members can be fake profiles which are actually competitors looking to bad mouth another group. Some people even use curse words. I've seen it several times. When an organizer doesn't have the control to remove these damaging comments it's the most helpless feeling you can imagine. Meetup used to let organizers remove negative comments when they had the "remove rsvp's" option. An organizer could simply put that person who left a bad comment in the did not attend list and that persons picture and comment no longer appeared. Now the only way an organizer can remove a bad comment is by writing to meetup with a request to remove a comment and if the organizer is lucky the comment will be removed in about two days. Meetup used to offer phone support and it was quicker to have comments removed and with phone support EVEYTHING was quicker. Now people can only write to meetup and they have to frustratingly wait for changes to occur. It leaves organizers with anxiety and very stressed out and VERY ANGRY!!
The new format makes it harder to run my group. No one likes it. I run a ski club where the "Ideas" function worked great and the site was social but easy to navigate through events. Now it's just a mess. No one in the group likes it, and it makes my job much harder. PLEASE go back to the earlier format. I believe in the Democratic process in running a group, but Meetup keeps robbing organizational power from the Organizers. Not good.
This new version has too many bugs and sucks. Lets go back to the previous version, and plan new releases a little better. Maybe a Beta test site!
The new meetup layout is not suitable for the meetup group that I organise. Please make it optional so we can switch back to the previous layout by choice. My members do not like the new layout either.
The home page needs columns to separate the events from the recent activity. Also bring back our photos to bring life and interest to our events and our group. Finally, put the calendar in the main navigation bar so it easier to access.
Our group does not like the new meetup format and would like to switch back to the old format. Several things lacking our we enjoy being able to post a picture specific to the meetup event. We also like to be able to RSVP yes or no and put a reason in the RSVP That is how our group stays informed.
Finding the full calendar (very important) is difficult. Privacy is out the window. Organizer control diminished. Ideas are not meetups in the making. The "why should we do this" is just a silly waste of space. Why are the updates and member comments shuffled tot he bottom where noone looks? Ugh! This is not making my members happy!
I have spent several days now deleting "notes" which were originally on the calendar as something that was of interest to my members but I was not organizing. Now meetup is sending out mass emails to all of my members to choose locations for the "notes". In addition, as I deleted one, a new email would go out for the next upcoming "note". I finally had to go to the last "note" and delete backwards to avoid any more emails to my members.
If that wasn't bad enough, the "ideas" my members posted became events which I had to cancel and delete.
The outcome of this new layout is that I now have some angry members for emails and me deleting their ideas.
Please do something soon, or I will have to move my group ASAP. This is too much work for a group that was fun and easy to manage before the layout change.
Th New website has gone backwards in terms of flexibilty i now find it hard t use.. I can't put my own url pictures in evrythings got worse...please changei= it back
Notes and not meetups are being emailed to memebrs asking them to help?? These are notes, like holiadys on the calendar, etc. These do not need times and lcoations! Speaking of locations, you will not allow me to add a new location unles it is already in your system? I have3 meetups for February that say there is no location even though there is! This is too confusing to members and WAY CHAOTIC!
The calendar is no longer accessible unless you are on the home page. I cannot add a meetup from the calendar because it doesn't keep the day that I clicked on.
The activity scroll is very lacking and that was one if your best features! Now we have to get through all the meetups in order to see a lot less!
My group has over 45 meetups a month. This new way of showing meetups is visually confusing. The calendar is better or the OLD WAY.
I am all for change, but only if it makes sense. The members cannot have control. Or make it an option for those that want this.
I would really love to have the calendar back. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE!
Please change back to the old meetup format. I have 500 members in my 3 groups and none like the new one! please please please
To have to use 3 or 4 mouse clicks to rsvp is too much. The calendar is hidden and difficult to find. The calendar and message board is most used by our group and the new format makes the discussions hard to see.
With 4000+ votes for the ability of Organizers to restore their MeetUp Groups to the OLD Format, think it would have happened by now! Come on MeetUp HQ--WE PAY for this service, start listening to your customers NOW!
Of the next half-dozen events I have posted, the Google maps are completely WRONG. They're sending people to the wrong places!
Either make them customizable, or take them off.
When changes are being considered, perhaps allowing organizers and members to vote on what they would like to see would be a good idea. Our dollars are supporting this site, shouldn't we have a say??
Please put the set up back. It's inconvenient and annoying to look at. Please don't fix what's working or ask the meet up organizers first.
Can we please go back to the old format? It is difficult to see who is attending the events.
This new page format is ugly and decreases communication within the group.
The title says it all. The new site sucks.
old format was better
I HATE the new homepage format and feel it was heavy handed to make such a major/drastic change practically overnight WITHOUT ANY advance notice to paid Meetup Group organizers. We are a PAYING CUSTOMER so should be respected accordingly and be also given a direct, easy to find customer service e-mail address for Group Organizers/Leaders. My membership and myself enjoyed reading the lastest member comments first. They were able to find the event listings easily enough, but now those comments are so far down on the homepage they can get overlooked.
I suggest you be even more creative and change the look of meetup to reflect the REAL direction of technology and networking. Go for the highest common denominator, not the lowest.
OMG!! What is up with the new meetup website. It's horrible. Please bring the old one back!
Please rethink this new format. Its a big thumbs down for our whole group. Also, for safety reasons, we address private home events vaguely, like only the city. Only "Yes" RSVPs receive exact addresses the day before via email. So the little map attached to events is inaccurate and could get confusing.
About 01/25/2011 Meetup.com changed their layout and their organization of their website. Now anyone can create new meetups. It is like the Organizers no longer can be the sole person to do this. Also if a meetup is held at a person's home residence, meetup has conveniently displayed a map to that person's home. Therefore anyone, creeps included, can find their way to a random person's private residence. Not only is that dangerous, but it is an invasion of privacy. I demand, as a meetup.com member that these settings be changed. I understand however, that you can make your meetup groups completely private. But that is not an option for those trying to build a community with similar interests. My suggestion is that we continue with the old meetup. Otherwise Meetup is about to lose a lot of its members. I am not afraid of expressing my concerns on Twitter and Facebook, which are both much bigger social networks. On here as well, if I have too.
hard to navigate and larger print doesn't fit on one page so necessary to scroll to next page to view complete meetup description
hard to navigate and larger print doesn't fit on one page so necessary to scroll to next page to view complete meetup description
Change back to the old interface. The new one is much harder to navigate and things are too hard to find now.
What is this?!!!This page is too confusing and messy !!!The format should has brief description with the subject of events on the corner of the page to know about the upcoming meet ups like before. In favour of (1,029 Dubai New In Town members) Please change it to the old one. The old one was so simple and everything was in order! Thank you for your support we enjoy and use the meet up.com comfortably!
Go back to formerly used home pages!
Please get rid of this new home page design. If it ain't broke please don't fix it. I am seriously considering cancelling my membership and scheduling my meetups through facebook!
Why do you keep changing the formats...for the better? Why do you not listen to the organizers who are your customers..we pay..remember! You didn't listen last time and you probably won't this time. How about a survey of the organizers when you are going to change something. What happenned to the meeting place photos for an upcoming meeting location. Give the organizer the control-on or off. of new formats!
Building online community is HUGE to getting folks involved and keeping momentum going. This new format kills the energy of the group members taking active ownership of the meetup. PLEASE make it so we can choose the Home page format or let us go back! This new format sucks on so many levels! A small calender at top or to side would sereve same purpose but not kill the online community aspect that is so vital to meetups being filled with people in real life.
I do not like the fact that I am charged a monthly fee for this, but now anyone can add meetups to my calendar. I love getting ideas from my members, but I don't want them just adding random dates. Also one of my groups just had a meetup announcement where I am "going" but there is no date! What if the date they add in doesn't work for me. This is a mess!
Bring back the old meetup site. Hate this new format. Going, not going?? Bring back yes or no!
Please give organizers the ability to choose the largest graphic. We don't need a google map as the feature. Put everything back the way it was - it was all great before.
Prior to creating havoc, determine if the work (design) you want to implement is any good. Clearly, you have not heard of usability testing or you would not have moved forward with this past release.
I liked the email invitation to see who is coming and to rsvp. The new interface assumes you're going to say yes (annoying) and you have to click like three things to say you're not coming (more work for the user.) The jquery/mootools floaty thing is annoying. Also I liked seeing the no's (right now you have to click to do that) because sometimes you see new member faces or people leave interesting/nice comments why they're not coming.
The new look is TERRIBLE!!!! What happened to CALENDAR and IDEAS?
change homepage back to original
do not like the new look at all, and don't like the new changes and neither do our members.
After all the negative feedback you have received, it is time for someone from Meetup to step up and address users. Explain to us why the massive changes were made, what you will do to help fix the situation, etc. Also, explain your new business model. Are you receiving money from Google maps for posting them there front and center? You are obviously receiving revenue from somewhere else to care so little about organizers canceling their dues. We have a right to know why the massive change that has caused so much dissatisfaction. Are you going to address your customers? Or are you going to sit there and act like we don't exist?
the new format sucks. meetup has sold out to advertisers, just like facebook. i can't even finish a sentence in the title! i liked it better when meetup was free of other agendas besides just having fun.
I feel like I'm reading everything backwards...google map or RSVP button on the right before the meetup details isn't the order in which people think about an event. Have to see what it is before deciding to RSVP or find out where it is. The highlighting around meetup details and a lot of other visual stuff is making the page look cluttered. You're making people think too hard...major faux pas of usability design. And what's with the catchy wording of buttons?? Seriously, your UX people need to go back to school and relearn their design principles...this is really awful.
MEETUP has made the same mistake Myspace made and now Myspace is closing it's doors. The NEW Layout is unacceptable. Whomever decided to replace the 12/31/2010 Layout with the NEW layout should be fired. Membership by the tens of thousands reject the NEW layout, but I suspect MEETUP doesn't really care what members want. I was banned from the Discussion Forum for voicing my opinion, that should give an idea of how little respect MEETUP has for it's paying membership.
If I'm paying for this site you should be trying to please me not making me crazy by changing the format everyday!! I hate it. I hate the calendar and so do the people in my meetup. The only thing you are accomplishing is irritating your users.
The new format is busy and difficult to get around in.
NOW!!
This new previously unannonced change to the look of my meetup group page is unwelcome. Members don't like it and I don't like the change or that it was done without notifying me first.
The new interface is really a downgrade. We've lost discussion threads on the homepage, people read left to right -- move the maps to the left and text on the right, we've lost space (and white space) for posting meetup details (e.g., disclaimers), just generally to cluttered, has become harder to post meetups (and we've seem to have lost some of our maps too)... It's like New Coke or Windows Vista all over. Vote to fix the interface, or hire Jonathan Ive's, please....
PLEASE turn back the clock a day or two so everything is as it was! The new format is NOT an improvement!!!
Please change the main page back to the way it was. I HATE the new look and the changes you made to it! I think you have done a huge disservice to the website, the group organizers and the members! Not only is Meetup about getting together for events, it's about creating relationships. By removing the shouts, new discussions, etc. from the main page, I think you are cutting off part of what makes this website great!
We organizers pay for these groups- this is not a "freebee for all" like Facebook! The previous "look" was quite practical... the "new look"? Well, frankly, it STINKS. Please revert!
With the new look, you have to scroll down to find the newest activity. I think you should be able to minimize it so once you've RSVP'd you don't need to have them taking up so much space. In a group with a lot of discussions, its now going to hurt having recent activity at the bottom. We used to be able to minimize the "about" section, please give us the feature for upcoming meetups or max it so only the next 3 events show up.
So far, nobody that I know from various meetup groups likes the meetup pages. We would like the old face back please!
It's unbalanced, unfriendly, uninviting. Someone is giving you bad advice. Give me the option to return to something I liked.
When I log in to my Meetup groups, I like to see what my group members are doing and saying in the group. Seeing the newest additions to the calendar on the main page rather than the people in the group diminishes the online connection between people. What people say/do is more important to me than calendar activities. Please return it to the way it was.
Come on....bad idea. leave well enough alone it looks awful and will turn people off from signing up. there was nothing wrong with what we had
I very much dislike that I can log in and suddenly thing have changed and you have given my members 'authority' that I have not chosen. It makes me want to switch the group to Facebook and stop paying Meetup!!!!!!
Also what happened to the idea tab - that was invaluable!
We are sick and tired of paying Meetup.com when they don't even ask if we want anything fixed. Nothing was broke so why fix it. Keep your changes available but only to those that wish to make them as the new format is horrible. Seriously Horrible.
I do not find the new format user friendly at all. I can't seem to find the suggested meetups and how many people "Like" them. I don't like having so much of the homepage taken up by maps showing where my meetups are, I know where I live and how to get around. The new menus and formats are very frustrating, I feel like I'm going in circles when trying to navigate.
Please, Meetup while it would be monumentally difficult to admit you spent a lot of money and time to change your program in ways many of us did not desire...you could at least improve the format...FORMAT is how it looks, not what you can DO/CONTROL. Please eliminate google maps (privacy issue), reinstate ability to upload a photo making each event unique, reinstate the ability to edit the font color...Also, agree with other poster the calendar is a HUGE feature, should still be a big tab and needs to show both months...scroll down etc.
Please change it back! I don't see how this is an improvement on anything when the other format was just fine.
...OR IS THIS JUSTjust KOOL-AID FOR THE MASSES?? The Google Maps are ugly and useless...You have now managed to turn the site into one lacking in ANY visual joy or creativity. Bring back our creative option to have our own chosen graphics for each event! Everyone (500 members) hates it!
The new layout sucks and everyone agrees. But what's really wrong is that there was NO consultation, and no warning. We need to vote to have the option to return to the previous format, otherwise we'll be walking with our feet and going elsewhere. My members don't need poxy maps...not all your meetups are in the USA, mine is a small one in Australia! I'd like to use pics as previously. If it's not broke, why fix it?
Please bring back the old page design, or at least give us the option to restore it!!! The new page looks embarrassingly unprofessional!!! It's hard to read the faded fonts (I tried changing colors, settings..everything but with no luck!) You have put in terrible looking Google maps and taken out the option to put in photos and pics such as flyers I used to put in for parties. Now all we see is a map that we organizers and put in at our own discretion. Please, if you're going to redesign things, consult a web designer! Please bring back the former page or the option to...and please bring back the maybe option as well. I wish I could believe that you guys actually care about our feelings. But I think you don't like your customers. You have to know this page looks embarrassingly unprofessional...surely you do!
Hate the new layout of Meetup! Hate it, Hate it!!! Give organizers the ability to change back!
Take a stand, Vote yes on this forum to show meetup sweeping changes like this wont fly. If meetup dosent change back in the Next week those who voted will take their business else where, Count me in !
You have made a mess of the meet-up sites. It is lacking and needs the calendar back. Who is the person(s) who thought up this insane idea to change it.
Let Users Choose, This new layout is terrible, Keep it simple. Changes like this will kill a group quickly. Get it fixed soon!
Choice of google maps or picture, and the google map is displaying wrong location, so editable map.
The old pages offered members more features. Reduce the size of the "events," and lose the maps or make them a clickable option. My members use the "activity", "photos" and "video" module quite a bit. Please make them accessable without scrolling, like the old window.
Ans seriously: DO NOT limit PAYING customers to 10 votes.
everything was so user friendly, right in front of you when you needed it. now unless youre the one who created it, no one knows where anything is. its all hidden to save space and any more stuff, but it was fine just the way it was. you can and stuff without changing the entire layout.
BLECH! looks like someone threw up on my meetup page! where are my beautiful photos that I select carefully to illustrate what the meetup is about? why is the ugly map there, blocking everything else? GO AWAY NEW MEETUP -
I am a former chair person for a group in Charlottesville, Virginia. Our group thrives on Meetup. We use the site to post pictures, share ideas, and develop events together. Not everyone can make every event that is post to but they want to keep maybe an option. The new layout of Meetup eliminates many of these key features we rely on.
Our group charges a membership fee. Those dues help pay for our annual subscription to Meetup. If the layout is not reverted back to the previous format, or if Meetup does not address the myriad of concerns that are posted on this thread I suggest that we get a refund.
A website like Facebook is a free service. Therefore it can change its layout whenever the administrators feel like it. We however, pay for Meetup. We pay for a service that we have come to rely on for the operations of our groups.
Meetup please make the changes we ask or supply a full refund to all groups who ask for it. We can find another platform to fit our needs. We wish to stay with Meetup for the great service it has provided up until this point, however we want a dynamic and engaging layout not a cluttered mess you have developed.
I love the idea that folks can spawn their own ideas but am lost without the ticker of recent comments and postings on the main page. There is no way for me to watch the chatter on the site any more! I usually monitor the stream of comments on my own events and others and help out with questions. Now I can't see a thing. WHY FORCE THE CHANGE!
Why can I not get recent activity that is actually ALL recent activity? Facebook is successful for a REASON!
Meet up is about the happy people who attend meet ups! I hate the new format. Wow! I opened my meet up page to see repeating Google maps and identical descriptions of my meet up...while all the excited, happy comments about my group were buried at the bottom and 2nd page ! What numb skull thought up this one! I am removing all the outgoing links from my site to my meet up page asap! I will no longer promote meet up via CL. It is not attractive in it's current format!
New interface for meetup events is UGLY with the google maps image. Please give us back the ability to upload our own image to represent each of the unique meetup events we schedule. Thanks.
Dear Meetup,
So you've been taking some heat for the changes you made to the design and layout of everybody's meetup pages. As an organizer (since 2008) of four meetups (two of them brand new), plus plans for two more, and three I help out with, I'm writing my suggestions for how you can make some simple changes that will start getting things back to how they should be. These are listed in order of (what I consider to be) their importance.
1. Give us back the ability to decide how many of our upcoming meetups are on the front page. One of my groups has an automatically-scheduled meetup every month, and the next seven are all listed on the front page, which you have to scroll past to find the recent activity section. I think you'll figure this one out real quick. A major contributor to being able to promote a group and make it look interesting to potential members is to have evidence of the group's activity immediately visible. To make it where you have to scroll way down to see that someone posted photos from a recent meetup (a BIG way to entice people to come!) just renders it much less effective. Yes, Meetup is all about having people meet in person. But today's reality is that so much is done online, to bury that activity makes a group look less active. My largest meetup has almost 600 members. There's no way even a tenth of them would even be able to attend one of our meetups. But the online presence you give us enables most of them to stay active with the group, or at least stay informed.
(I would still prefer the split columns format we used to have, with the meetups on the right and the activity in the center, but since that'd be a big design change to roll back, just being able to limit the front page to displaying however many of our next meetups we're having [I would limit my groups to one or two] would be a step in the right direction. While we're talking about "the old way", I personally preferred having the Calendar tab in the upper bar of links. I don't see why you couldn't put it back and have that take you to a separate calendar page, rather than only having the calendar as a tab in the "Let's Meetup and..." section. And one last thing- I wish, when I was logged in to my own group, that the intro section at the top didn't disappear. I like seeing my group's homepage as I intend everyone to see it.)
2. I and my members cannot post comments directly to the Recent Activity section anymore. That's really unfortunate. Again, that should be simple to add that functionality back.
3. Bring back the option to add a photo to our meetup events, so that would be what's seen on each meetup's page instead of the Google map. Or at least in addition to the Google map. But the pictures we used made the events look good.
4. If we don't have a meetup scheduled, you don't need a 212-pixel-high giant block just to say "Oh no! There are no meetups!" I've locked down two of my groups from having members be able to post meetups because the way I have organized our group, we have a strict schedule that meets at specific places. Yes, that should mean that I ought to be able to have all my coming meetups scheduled well in advance, so that we don't have any gaps where no meetups are scheduled, but the fact remains that shaming me into getting a meetup on the calendar by putting a big empty block front and center on our page doesn't make me feel good about my Meetup experience.
5. Since I've locked down two of my meetups from having members be able to schedule them (by the way, that should not have been the new default setting, I had to go around in a hurry before anyone tried to put their own up there), they can now no longer make suggestions for meetups in any way. Would it hurt to still have the Ideas functionality (which could include non-meetup ideas) of the previous system (where only organizers can put stuff on the calendar, but people can make suggestions), alongside the new functionality? With two of my meetups, I'm very happy to have it now that members can suggest and even make their own meetups happen. But with my others, allowing that to happen could result in chaos. Now those groups' members will be limited to posting their ideas in our discussion boards or mailing list.
6. The old way of picking a place to have a meetup when you were scheduling a meetup was real easy to find from our list of previous places. now you have to click "more" several times and scroll way back to get to one that you met at recently, but was added a long time ago. A simple solution would be, on the "Manage your Venues" page, to add a link for each venue that says "Schedule a meetup here." Then I could go, pick the place from the list first (where it's easy to find, because it's alphabetical, unlike your Recent Venues tab), and go from there to fill in the details of our next meetup. But better yet would be to return an alphabetical listing of Our Venues to the meetup scheduling page.
Thanks for listening. I'm looking forward to seeing these improvements made soon. Or better yet...
Just roll back to the old system.
I agree, this new home page is awful!! I took the time to find pictures of kid's venues for Mom,s so they can get an idea of what places were like so they could decide of their kids would like it, now there's no pics on the calendar page itself!! And it's WAY too confusing, too hard to RSVP to anything and I can't change MY layout for MY group!! And no pics, we rely on pics, who cares what the map of it looks like... BOOO!!
keep the updated functionality/ drop back old the prior look and feel -this one is like taking a step backward.
NEED THAT CALENDAR!!
Please give meetup leaders the option to use the old layout. I've been tweaking and working with the layout since it was changed last, then I log on and WHAM! it's all messed up again. I loved the layout options we had- we were able to choose and move modules around as we see fit for our groups. Now my photos are gone, members need to scroll down past the ridiculously huge next meetup frame to find new activity and posts. I hate this change.
The new page reads like a newspaper lsiting of events. Boring. Uninviting. Its just a list with the personality we have developed deleted.
For groups like ours that produced videos based on our meetups (for members who couldn't attend), please restore the video option on the home page. (And get rid of "new meetup!" It sucks!)
New stinking format!@#%$#!@#$
I think the "Like" option for ideas or potential meetups should be re-established. The way it looks now is that anyone that likes an idea is marked as going; it can get confusing for organizers trying to set things up.
This new format has taken the creativity out of posting an event. Please allow us to continue to post a photo or picture in the event listing. The google map can stay on the event listing, but give us the option to make our photo or picture the main picture that shows up at the top of the listing and in the events feed.
My group is a support group for chronically ill and in pain people. Many cannot make it to meetings because of health reasons yet they want to remain part of the group. Because of this, I have initiated teleconference Meetups so that members can participate from the comfort of their own homes. I already had an issue because your site has no provision for a teleconference meeting was insistent that I put a physical meeting location.
Now the new site look...
Has no place for members to quickly make a remark to the group as before. The only option they have is the Discussion Board.
My list of Meetup ideas suggested by members has disappeared and I don't have a hard copy of what the ideas were or how they were ranked by the members in order of importance.
I had an informative video on my home page about fibromyalgia which is no longer there and I regularly switched out the videos to educate members on disease aspects.
There is no longer a place on the Meetup announcement for a picture of the speaker for that particular meeting - this takes away personalization that could help members decide to attend the meeting knowing visually who they were going to hear speak.
All in all, this new site look seems very impersonal and quite user-unfriendly for the members. I feel you failed to take into consideration the number of groups that might not get together regularly in-person yet still wanted a sense of community. This might work for "healthy" people, but many groups that use Meetup are support groups for various illnesses where the membership does not always meet in-person.
In my opinion, this was a huge step in the wrong direction. I also don't appreciate not having more notice about the changes or having the option to keep my old site look. Also, I don't appreciate losing information because you decided to delete a page.
Just my thoughts!
With the new format the best thing of the page is lost: as the photos are tiny and deformed it's impossible to see who is coming (unless one takes the time and goes into each individual profile; well sometimes there are 100 attendees...).
Colours might be prettier by someones taste, but the functionality of the page got significantly worse. Why to change something if it's functioning ok and you you change it why not see from the user's view, not fro that of the techies...
Too many events are displayed on our page. All the activity is pushed to the very bottom of our page. The amount of events displayed should have some controls, like the previous layout.
Meetup is destroying its legacy here. It is no longer user friendly and is trying to get fancy. MEETUP IS A BIG SUCCESS BECAUSE OF ITS SIMPLICITY and USER FRIENDLINESS. Lets keep it that way, or else you are gunna loose a lot of members and ORGANIZERS.
This new look stinks; it's taken away from what used to be a good site. Most of your recent changes honestly stink but this new looks caps it. Change it back
You didn't tell anyone you were unleashing this terrible new format. It's an eyesore and it removes any information about a group, it just displays meetups with a little Google map. Where's the benefit in that? Also, you automatically set to let members plan events instead of letting organizers decide if we want to do that. I understand it can be changed -- and I did -- but you shouldn't have that as the default.
Ugh this is a DISASTER. My group was running amazingly with the "ideas" function. The new pending meetups won't work for how our group runs - people post ideas but that doesn't mean they want to turn them into real meetups right away. We had been having 8-10 meetups a month but the new way of suggesting and posting does not work for how we run!
Also now the organizer can't post comments to the group on the top of the page? Horrible! My group doesn't want to get a million emails but really liked that posting way of communicating.
PLEASE give us more formatting options. I don't want all the comments and locations cluttering up our front page - too much information that everyone doesn't need. It was great the way it was now it's ugly and requires a lot more work to read and more supervision on the organizer's part vis-a-vis suggested meetups. Before I had the option of granting event host or event organizer status based on requests and I could control which members could plan events but all members could announce ideas. Now to even announce an "idea" I have to give wider access to the group or just to organizers it doesn't work!!
I don't like what you've done to our page. Please give us the option to switch back to the way it looked yesterday
As per title
CHANGE IT BACK!!!! I am contemplating stopping my subscription to you guys! where are the pics of my members!!! Where is my About section with my videos! where is my text for the groups introduction!!! this New layout is horrible!! Where is the option to change it back!!!!
Change it back NOW!!!!
There are 1000s of blogs comming in from organizers around the world who are pissed at your changes!!!
I just logged in and saw the new home page design and went UGH! The calender of events takes up everything and you have to scroll down to see comments. HATE IT! Let us go back to designing the modules which is a better and more personal touch! Thanks
I am getting so much negative feedback from my members it's crazy. The calendar and recent activity is buried and you only see one month of the calendar at a time. The number one thing that members sign in to see is the calendar and you've made it so difficult to find and to be able to see at a glance. WHY would you do that???? Do you honestly think that by making that more difficult they will step up and host more activities? They'll do less and be less active. I have a hard enough time as it is trying to fill my calendar and having event hosts and I've been working my butt off to grow my group and now you do this. I've never had any of the changes you've made make such an impact so fast and in such a negative way. I'm literally ready to throw my hands up in the air and quit. You constantly change what is working - change for the sake of change isn't a good thing.
Our meetup group is now in chaos - any user can put a meetup on the calendar? That doesn't work out so well when we have over 100 users! We worked hard to be organized and put a leadership team in place, and now it's wrecked. Not cool, Meetup!
Description… (optional)what just happened to the site? it's terrible. no calendar? that is the most important feature!
Go back to the old home page layout with the "Latest Activity" being the the main focus and the events off to the side like before. The new layout causes more effort to scroll down and see new event postings and what's being discussed about them. Bad layout change!
I think the layout of the Tabs on home page should be rearragned. Everyone likes to see the CALENDAR first because they can see everything that's coming up in the future. And it NEEDS to be at least 2 months, which, meetup now only shows ONE month (why did meetup change this?). Personally, I think meetup should show 3 months in advance because people like to plan ahead. Then the tabs should go in this order after calendars... upcoming, past, drafts.
I hate the new look, how do I go back to the old one!!! grrrrr
I hate the new meetup that popped up this morning! Can we go back to the old one, or have a choice on how to view it. Maps everywhere, lists, and rsvps. Its not like the discussion-based meetup that was so nice.
Pls bring back the home page
Change Meetup group pages back! New format has meetings as having 0 places left! Also I can't now see activity in the group (people joing, posting stuff etc)
We have a new version that is now rolling out to all groups over the next few weeks
We have a new updated version that will be rolling out over the next few weeks.
We are making rapid changes to address some of this. Follow updates here: http://www.meetup.com/boards/thread/10371863
Unlikely we will flat out revert or offer multiple views, but keeping this open to hear how the new meetup is not working

This is not completed.
This format was never restored.
Having Group Descriptions expanded is highly useful, which is why there are 10,000+ votes.
Always amazing to me that Meetup randomly opts to develop other features and ignores this feature, which has the all time highest number of votes I've seen so far.
Why not honor Organizers, the people paying to keep Meetup.com running, and put back this simple feature?

I have three custom-designed arts meetup sites that I had a professional website designer create for me.
Why are you making terrible changes that are unnecessary, unwanted and highly opposed by the organizers who pay your subscriber dues?
This is short-sighted, arrogant and VERY BAD business.

I don't know what the fuck they doing at google but the new format of google groups sucks shit. Why the fuck did this dumbasses try to fix something that wasn't broken. The old format worked just fine but I keep getting force into the new one and it is very difficult to find the menu to reset to the old one. They can shove the new format up their fucking asses. I am fed up with this shit and I am going to delete all things google from my PC including my browswer.

the new search format for meetup days and times is pathetic
it now takes me alot longer to view dates and times for meetups.
every tme i want to look at details of a meetup i need to manually change the city & mile radius that i want.
for whatever reason it defaults to a 2 mile radius when i'm searching for a 25 mile radius.
the previous format was so much more user friendly and fasterto get the info that i'm looking for.
please modify this format to e way it was a fw days ago.
i'm extremely surprised that the geniuses at HQ didn't realize that the current format is a nightmare to use. -

I wish to return to the old format as well! It's far more readable and the new one
cuts off my entire right side (as I view it) -

At the Home Page, the right the calendar consistently defaults to only events that I've said I'm GOING to, and every time I go back to my home page, it reverts to only GOING TO events. I want to see ALL events as my default (or let me choose my default view in my profile). Also #1 it seems to be stuck on some date in September to start off with. Why can't it start off with the current date when you visit MU? Also #2 I hate the "More" links next to later dates which will promote the missing of possible meetings; why can't this be set to default of already expanded? Seems to me that this was a giant leap backwards in development; why was this done in the first place?

I agree. Why weren't we given a choice? Or a vote? I liked the old format. I had a few paragraphs telling what the group was about. Where did it go? How are new members supposed to know. I used to be on the home page and now it is gone!

dont change it! our group uses the site as a forum format, and does not need every thing to be a discussion. at least leave it as an option for the organizer to decide.

Cherie, please note that this "blizzard" of an Idea is listed as "completed." Thus, if you were to have any concerns about the current format, you'd probably be better off starting a new suggestion.

I don't see any date/time stamps on these posts, so I'm going to add my two cents worth. I've been designing websites for 15 years, and I subscribe to the policy of Keeping It Simple. I do not like the control Meetup is enforcing over layout, especially when I'm the one paying the Organizer fees.

I'm perfectly running Coasters Social Group on groupspaces now, and have no intention of returning to Meetup. Why should it be seen as superior to GS, and why would you consider returning to meetup when it gets it's act together? For me, there's more flexibility to move things around just as want them in GS.

Completed? I hope not! I hate that the first thing that stands out to me are group pictures on the upper right of the screen and that underneath that are updates and new discussions that are very small. The left part of the screen is just wasted space with what the categories chosen by the organizer of what the meetup is about and then all the other groups members can possibly join. I hate that you can't click next page to view past meetups, especially when you are looking for a specific event. Why do you have to keep clicking "more"? It's stupid. I shut down my group until I see improvements from meetup. So now all I see is an obnoxious light bulb as a reminder to schedule an event. Why can't you skip the enormous light bulb and just list Recent Meetups for those groups who haven't yet scheduled new meetups? Until I see a version remotely similar to the old format, I will not renew my group on meetup. I am still sticking with GroupSpaces.com until you stop apologizing for the fact you screwed up and return to the old format.
