Gave 3 votes on this. Here is my original email to Meetup support:

        <<
        Hi,

We select sponsors individually by each meetup, but meetup.com does not seem to currently support that. Our first meetup's sponsor is still shown i.e. in invites to the upcoming meetup, and this gives the wrong impression. They have only said they'd "pick up the bill" in the first evening. I don't want them to think otherwise. Also, it probably confuses people when I'm simultaneously asking for a sponsor to the upcoming evening.

In my opinion, sponsorship should be an event specific property. I don't want to downgrade the first evening's sponsor away from the sponsor status. It's really a lot like how you're managing the "location" thing. Maybe you should have sponsorship below the "time" and "location" in creating a new meetup, allowing to select one of the earlier sponsors, or to signal, "sponsorship for this event is still open".

        Thanks.

It may be more work but an organizer can achieve this now by: adding the sponsor as a group sponsor in general and using the img src html code to add a logo and text to the event description.

        Ex. Backgammon December Tournament
Sponsored by Microsoft [microsoft logo here]

Then the organizer can work out with the sponsor what they get - for example - 1) I'll email my total membership twice including event info and your product info. 2) I'll give a coupon to every event attendee. 3) I'll email the attendees after the event and include another blurb about your business/special event you're having.

Isn't this sort of dealt with by the ability to make a meetup user an event organizer? What would be involved then in permitting a "one off" paypal account change for such an event - allowing the "event sponsor" to receive payment associated with that event only? Or am I totally reading the idea wrong?

As a Backgammon Group and being involved in competitions this would really help us

We need to enable sponsors to sponsor only the meetings that are relevant for them.
