Organizers need more robust ways to track participation in their groups, and quick access tools for contacting different groups of members. I would like to be able to a) see on the member page when the last time was that a member attended an event and/or how many events the member has attended (right now that information requires viewing the individual members page which is extra clicks), and b) be able to quickly email members who have not attended an event in X amount of time to encourage their participation. Right now, we can only view and email members based on how often they've visited the website, which is very limiting.

This was brought up earlier and Nate indicated it had been fixed but it appears to me that if one deletes an instance of a recurring event, all events are cancelled and one cannot recover any of the copy. Two suggestions: 1. show cancelled events to admins for rescheduling purposes (i.e. we'd like to copy the event details but not 'undelete' the event) and 2. ask the user whether they want to delete all of the instances of a recurring event or just a specific date (like most calender apps do).

Also - unrelated but relevant to posting to this page, for some reason, this page does not recognize that I am logged in and, when I click "sign in", it tries to sign me up anew. Kind of a pain.

3 Strikes and you are out – As an organiser a huge amount of effort is invested into the meetup group. There seem to be members that are serial offenders RSVP’ing for events, never paying, never turning up, pulling out at the last minute.

Often displacing other members on limited seat events, causing disruption to the group and the enjoyment for all (especially the organisers).

Some events the organiser can be left out of pocket, being responsible for paying for the offending member for group bookings, or all members lose out on volume discounts because of the offending member (missed the discount by 1 withdrawn RSVP). Once they remove their RSVP from the event page, the organiser can’t track who was in, or out or even who the offending members was. Other than going through old emails to do this – very labour intensive. Maybe like a waiting list – there could be withdrawn RSVP’s down the bottom of the attendee list and the date in time order when they pulled out.?? As an organiser tool, not for public member viewing.

Possibly they are automatically entered into an offenders list or report for organisers if they withdraw their RSVP after a certain date, don’t show up to an event, fail to pay for their RSVP by the due date – the list could detail and tack this against their membership.

It might be a case of expanding the you can only RSVP – when you have paid functions and organiser control. This might be the solution for these types of events.

This is a problem for all organisers.

I really hope you are in the process of a redesign of your site with a user focus, because I find the usability of it quite average.

You seem to have completely ignored the user scenario of a user who is in groups wanting to monitor and get involved with their groups more - all your web interface is about seems to be getting people to join more meetups. Which is fine, but you seem to be ignoring your key users ie. your existing users. If it wasn't for the great concept of Meetups itself then I'd be happy not to use your website as is (sorry).

For example, I find it quite annoying how on my homepage it's all about "other groups I should join", and "other groups who have upcoming meetups", instead of what I'm actually interested in on your website, which is when *my* Meetup groups are meeting next.

It doesn't seem like Rocket Science to figure out this important use case of your site but either it's priority is reduced lately or you've overlooked it, which personally I think is a big mistake.

There are a few problems with the current Suggested Meetup function.
1) Sometimes a person will post something just as an idea, but they do not wish to be the point-person. People sign up for it anyway though and then there is confusion as to whether it is an official event and who is the person organizing it, etc.
2) Some people post suggested meetups that don't fit the theme of the group, OR do fit the group theme, but need some minor adjustments to the date/time *before* people begin to sign up. If the organizer doesn't catch this in time, members will begin to sign up for the event (even though its in the suggested area), at which point it becomes difficult to make changes.
3) Local advertisers will promote their business with unwanted meetups (nevertheless if two people happen to rsvp, it becomes announced to the whole group).

This is how I think it could be improved. When a person enters a suggested meetup, they must first indicate (by check-box) if this is simply an "idea", or if its an event with a specific date/time that they intend on being the point-person (or "organizer" for that event).
Once the suggested meetup is entered, it must FIRST be approved by the organizer before it even appears to the group at all. That way the organizer can determine if it is a legitimate suggestion and if the date, time and other details are reasonable.

If the details are okay, the organizer simply hits an "approve" button, and the event is announced to the group (or appears in the suggested area if its just an "idea"), or perhaps the organizer can approve it to appear in the suggested meetup area, but it won't be announced until 3 people sign up.

In either case, what we really need is the ability for organizers to preview suggested meetups before they appear to the group, even before they appear in the "suggested" section.

We are a local area Business Networking Group.

We have "real life" members of the group that pay dues outside of meetup.

We use Meetup to stay in touch with our "real life" members; but we also use Meetup to attract potential new members. So for us, there is a difference between "real life" members and people who are members on Meetup Only.

It would be very handy if we could categorise our members. For example, we might have a "Members" group for real life members and an "Associates" group for people who are members on meetup only. We could then use these different groups for communication purposes, or for creating "member only" events etc.

For other groups, it could also be handy to have the ability to group members. Eg.
- Sporting clubs could group members based on M/F, age groups, etc.

I believe this would make Meetup an even more powerful tool for organisers.

I need the ability to link to other meetup groups that are "like-minded" and treat them as an affilliate group. I am envisioning this to be similar to the "sponsor" feature of the current site, but without having to offer a perk just to get someone to click over.

Just a little background on why I am asking for this . . . I have spent the last year networking with similar groups all over the State of Florida. The other organizers and I are looking to start holding state-wide events more often, building larger networks and opportunities . . . just a thought that this new feature would expand the capabilities of the Meetup site!

The limited ability of the meetup schedule page does not allow for much creativity or "pre" writing. The transfer from a text document where more formatting and options are available is always riddled with flaws that takes an equal amount of time to fix than writing the whole thing out again. Could you maybe look into a better system for input? I have used eventbrit in the past and that part of their system and it's ability to offer previews, a more comprehensive repeating event scheduler and direct link to "Mailchimp" was very useful. I think this site offers a lot more but in that department there could be lesson learned from the competition ;)
