Meetup is an incredible tool, but one of the most annoying things about being an active participant is the sheer volume of emails one receives from different groups, new meetups maching your interests, etc.

An idea that would help dramatically reduce the number of emails we have to deal with would be an option to receive a single "Meetup Digest" email daily or weekly, containing any newly added meetups, newly joined members/discussion posts, etc. that users would normally receive individual emails about. This email could be dynamically created for each user based on their group memberships and what email triggers they have selected, and what has happened in each group since the last email was sent. It could also include any new meetup groups matching the user's interests, if they have selected to receive those emails as well.

Having this all in one tidy email to read once a day or week would make it much easier to avoid information overload and actually stay on top of everything going on with the user's group memberships.

This is important because then members can print out the tickets and bring them to the event. Often times, organizers have to be responsible for bringing a list and checking attendees' names off of the list. The problem is some attendees insist arguing they RSVPed while the organizers, obviously, couldn't find their names on the list. It pisses everybody off and wastes a lot of time, not to mention the people who are waiting on the line.

Here is my solution. Send an email automatically once attendees RSVP "YES" for a Meetup event so they can print out the ticket themselves. This way, they would have to be responsible for whether they have RSVPed for a single event. It's like watching a movie. If you forgot to bring your own ticket, I guess you would have no one else to blame but yourself.

As an organizer I get way too many emails for basically every action that happens on the club or an event I organize. And I'm sure I speak for everyone on Meetup.com - Organizer or Not:
I get an email:
- When someone RSVP's for an event I organized.
- Or Changes their RSVP.
- Adds a Photo to an album I created:
- Comments on a Photo, I previously commented on.
- Adds a comment to a meet-up I created.
- Emails me a comment if I commented on a meet-up that I did not organize ... and so on ...

I realize that I have the option to turn these settings off, and I can choose to do that. But I have a better idea, that I hope meet-up would consider.

Instead of sending an email every time, for each of the actions above. Meet-up needs to create an "Activity" Page. This page should be available when I log in and should list out all activities that pertain to me. Such as comments left on my Photos or Meet-ups. People who have RSVP'd on my Events etc etc. An email can be sent out once or twice a week to the member if they failed to log in and check their activity page. Meetup.com has a way of tracking this.

meetup currently has two options to announce the new event during the set-up phase; to email the entire group or to invite friends from facebook. we need to have a better system in place to email new events to the group because not every event applies to everyone. this function would be similar to the current custom email list that you can find under "email members" but would apply to announcing a new event only. this could help make events more localized. for example, my meetup group is currently based in a large county, some members cannot attend several events, but they still get tons of emails with new event announcements. it's an inconvenience to them and it's gotten to the point where they choose to turn off the mailing lists, which is not helpful to us organizers!!! We still want these members in our group because there are certain events that are more centralized to everyone. Please help us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Quick summary: Allow an email going to the mailing list to have replies go to sender, not just the current mailing list option.

Background: I am the organizer of a large group (1700+ members). We have events almost every day, sometimes several
per day. We have over 1700 members. When we send new meetup announcements, we do it such that replies go to the event host,
not the whole mailing list. We do this because no matter how many warnings you put on the email, people still just click reply, and then end up emailing the whole group with their question or comment on the event. I have people leaving the group on a weekly basis because of too many emails (lots of
events!). Ideally, I would want to tell my AOs that when they create an event, send it to the mailing list instead of 'all members'. This would allow people to choose to opt out of the mailing list and no longer get the ton of event notifications. But when you click on 'mailing list', the only option for replies is mailing list! I don't want more useless email threads to get started, so what I really want is to send my new event announcements to the mailing list, and replies go to me (or the AO setting up the event).
